We are all familiar with the adage that time is money. How can you save time and therefore money on a construction site? Read on for four ways to do this and make 2023 your most efficient year yet!
Delegate effectively– You have a team for a reason. You likely hired each one of them due to a specific set of skills and experience that they possess. You know who is good at what when it comes to your team members so pass out duties accordingly and remember to encourage teamwork on the larger and more physical tasks. You cannot manage a million things at once. Delegating will help you break down the tasks for the day and start getting them accomplished.
Master time management– Make a plan for the day before you head out to the job. Failure to plan is planning to fail!
Having a list of the top priorities to complete in a day will keep you and your team focused and on track. You may even have extra time when you complete your top priorities and be able to start on one of tomorrow’s top tasks or tackle some of the small things that will inevitably pop up on any job.
Clean up as you go– there is a reason that anyone who has worked in food service knows, you clean dishes, trash, and messes as you go. Getting to the end of the day and having 8+ hours’ worth of mess to clean up? No thanks! Throwing out garbage, wrapping extension cords, and putting away equipment as you finish using it is a good strategy to not only have a smoother end to the workday, but to keep track of all of your tools, and keep up morale among your team.
Look for new products that save time– New products are released every day and some of them could equate to large time savings for your team! There is definitely something to be said for the tried and true way of doing something but there is also something to be said for a leader that is focused on continuous improvement. Keep your eyes open for new products that are designed to make your work easier and more efficient, and don’t hesitate to give some of them a try. Need an example of one of these products? We recently released a PVC column wrap that has a patented snap-together technology. Snap-Tite® PVC column wraps snap together, requiring no glue or mitering. As an extra bonus, this technology eliminates the need for a return trip to the jobsite the next day. They have shown to save contractors over 30 minutes per column!
