Ed was born on a farm in Russia OH, on January 8th, 1939. He grew up helping his father on the farm until his graduation from Russia High School in 1957. After high school, Ed joined the Army Reserves and attended Miami Jacobs College, where he received an Associate’s Degree in Higher Accounting. He then worked for six years in cost accounting and purchasing at Shelby Mfg. Co. in Sidney, OH. He married his wife Merilyn in 1962, and had 4 children, Michele, Doug, Dave, and Kim.
In 1966, Ed Borchers and Tom Francis purchased Superior Aluminum products from Lou Burt of Youngstown, OH. They relocated the business to Russia, OH, in March 1967 and have since moved locations and undergone three expansions to increase manufacturing capacity. Since purchasing the company, Ed has served as Vice President and General Manager for 20 years, as well as the Company President for 20 years.
During those years, he also served on Russia Village Council and was Mayor of Russia for 8 years during the 1970’s. Ed has served on the Board Of Directors of Superior Aluminum Products, Versailles Savings & Loan, Sidney Hospital, United Way, Versailles Lions Club, Russia Park Board, and Shelby County Community Foundation. With all of his community involvement, generosity to his community, and friendly personality, Ed has become a beacon of living “The Superior Way” and a constant reminder of doing things the right way.
Today, at 86 years old, Ed still volunteers his time with numerous charitable organizations, and still shows up to work a few hours a week sending out Accounts Receivable collection invoices. Pay your bills on time, or you will hear from Ed!
